Part of Mediterranean Icons, The Original Scene III feels like a theatre of origins, where forms seem caught at the instant before they become fully legible. Against a glowing field of ochre and burnt gold, bodies, faces, and fragments appear in separate zones yet seem drawn into the same unstable event. Some figures press forward with almost sculptural weight, others hover at the edge of recognition, as though memory were reconstructing a scene it can never completely recover. The surrounding compartments deepen that sense of recurrence, turning the composition into a fractured narrative of emergence, rupture, and return. Rather than revealing an “original scene”, the painting keeps it perpetually out of reach, preserved only through traces, gestures, and the residue of experience.
