Narration

Part of Mediterranean Icons, Narration turns the icon into a theatre of memory. A central cluster of figures rises from a field of ochre, rust and gold, while the surrounding compartments unfold like episodes at the margins of a larger story. As in the structure of Byzantine icons, where scenes around a sacred figure recount moments of a life, these smaller images seem to echo, anticipate or remember what happens at the centre. Yet no sequence is fixed: bodies blur, gestures interrupt one another, and meaning passes from one chamber to the next like an oral tale reshaped in every telling. Here, narration is not linear but layered, a gathering of fragments through which myth, memory and human experience continually rewrite one another.
