The Mystery of Semblance

Part of Mediterranean Icons, this work explores the fragile space between appearance and disappearance. Set within a luminous golden field, fragmented heads and partial figures hover like shifting identities, their features dissolving into strokes of colour and shadow. Around them, smaller compartments gather faces and silhouettes that echo, question, or contradict the central forms. These emerging movements evoke the instability of semblance; how a face, a memory, or a presence can flicker between clarity and ambiguity. Here, the “icon” becomes a terrain of uncertainty, where meaning forms, unforms, and returns in continual transformation.
